Melaleuca Alternifolia & Quinquenervia - What's the Difference?

Melaleuca Alternifolia & Quinquenervia - What's the difference?

My first experience with Melaleuca was buying Tea tree from the health food store to make homemade cleaners quite a few years ago. I knew it was great used as a natural cleaning agent. Once I started using Young Living oils the only use I had for tea tree was to spot treat blemishes with a tiny bit of this essential oil. Other than that I didn't know much about this oil.

I just recently acquired Melaleuca QuinquenerviaIf you're anything like me you've wondered why do we have two different Melaleuca oils from Young Living? So let's dive in and look at the difference between the two and similarities.

FIRST LET'S LOOK AT THE SIMILARITIES
  • They're both from the myrtle family
  • They're both steam distilled from the leaves
  • They both support a healthy respiratory system

  • It's also known as tea tree essential oil
  • It's in the everyday oils collection from young living so you get it in the starter kit when you sign up.
  • From Australia & France
  • Referred to as narrow leaved paperback: grows around streams on swampy flats
  • Fresh/crisp aroma helps maintain healthy looking scalp & hair
  • Reduces blemishes
  • Apply to feet and toenails as needed
  • FOUND IN: Purification, melrose, rose ointment, claraderm

  • From Australia
  • Commonly known from the broad leaved paperbark tree
  • It's from a small/medium size tree of all spice family, it gets 20 m high
  • The oil is used in cosmetics in Australia
  • Supports skin health
  • supports a healthy bladder
  • FOUND IN: Melrose

I find they both smell distinctly like tea tree, there's no denying that. However I find the Melaleuca Q is a bit more mild. Do you own both? Do you have a favorite? Are either of these on your wishlist? Let me know in the comments below. I would love to hear from you!

Orange, Tangerine and Beramot - What's the Difference?

I'm always curious what's the difference with products that are similar. Today we are looking into three citrus oils: Orange, Tangerine and Bergamot.

First let's talk about the similarities:

  1. All 3 are cold pressed from the rind
  2. All 3 can cause photosensitivity
  3. Bright and fresh
  4. All from the citrus family
  5. These are to be used topically or aromatically

  • FOUND IN: Awaken, clarity, dragon time, dream catcher, gentle baby, harmony, joy, progessence plus and white angelica

VITALITY LINE

Young Living has recently come out with their vitality line. You can get Bergamot, Tangerine and orange in the vitality collection. Which means you can use these oils as supplements. Orange is fantastic in your ningxia. Tangerine is great in popsicles and maybe you want to spruce up any cup of tea by adding bergamot to it? Just some suggestions.

I would love to know if you have all three of these which one is your favorite, or which one is on your wishlist! Let me know in the comments below. It's hard for me to choose. Maybe I'd pick tangerine because it's so bright, orange for my tummy to keep me above the wellness line, or bergamot because I'm a huge fan of earl grey. The decision is too tough. I choose all of them.
